Utility/Facility Owners are required to mark the approximate location of underground utilities/facilities following the APWA Color Code standards.

Utility/Facility Owners are required to mark the approximate location of underground utilities/facilities. The marks must be accurate within 18 inches measured horizontally from the outside edge of each side of the facility, or a strip of land 18 inches on either side of the operator’s field mark, or the marked width
of the facility or line plus 18 inches on each side of the marked width of the facility or line. Excavation within the tolerance zone should be performed with hand tools until the marked facility or facilities are exposed.

The following is a list of the ticket types processed by MS811 and the timeframes within which excavators must submit the request in advance of excavation work and when operators are required to locate and respond by:
Normal
• Submit By: At least 3 and no more than 10 working days in
advance notice
• Locate/Respond By: 3 working days
